• Explain how opioid abuse gets started and continues in some. • Define the differences between Use, Abuse, Physical Dependence and Addiction (Substance Use Disorder). • Discuss the effects opioids have on the brain and other areas and how these “effects and side effects” can complicate the proper treatment of pain and substance use disorders. • Discuss what makes “Heroin and the Fentanyls” so special and potentially dangerous along with what has not worked vs may actually work to reduce opioid problems. • Identify the benefits and risks involved in Medication Assisted Treatment involving Buprenorphine.

Credits AHEC: This program is approved for 0.6 CEU's (6.0 clock hours) of continuing education by Mid-Carolina AHEC and meets the SC AHEC Best Practice Standards. Participants must attend 90% of the program in order to receive a certificate of attendance. No partial credit will be given.
