DescriptionYou can’t give from an empty cup” (Nurses in Transition, 1988). Working intimately with people who are suffering can be physically, psychologically, and emotionally depleting, and without a means of replenishing, healthcare providers are at high risk for compassion fatigue. Let’s talk about what compassion fatigue is, how to prevent it, and what to do when it develops. This workshop will draw on East/West approaches to health & well-being, and include lecture, discussion, and experiential exercises. Please wear flat, comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for gentle movement and bring a recording device if desired (most cell phones can record).

Credits Nursing: This nursing continuing education activity awards 4.0 contact hours upon successful completion.

Lowcountry AHEC is approved with distinction as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the South Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Respiratory Therapists: This program is approved for 4.0 hours of continuing education. Lowcountry AHEC is an approved provider of continuing education for Respiratory Care Practitioners by the SC Board of Medical Examiners.

Social Workers: This program is approved for a total of 4.0 non social work contact hours. The South Carolina AHEC system is an approved provider of continuing education by the South Carolina Board of Social Work Examiners.

Counselors/Therapists (LMFT): This program is approved for 4.0 hours of continuing education credit. The South Carolina AHEC system is recognized as a permanent sponsor of continuing education by the South Carolina Board of Examiners of Licensure of Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Psycho-Educational Specialists.

All Participants: This program provides 4.0 clock hours (0.40 CEUs) by Lowcountry AHEC and meets SC AHEC Continuing Education Best Practice Standards.
Masks are optional, but strongly recommended for all. MUSC will provide masks if needed.
